The Cottage Design by RM+H Architects is a study in simplicity, climate response, and material honesty. The structure is built entirely with exposed brick, minimizing the use of concrete wherever possible. This decision was both ecological and aesthetic, allowing the building to breathe naturally while maintaining a sense of warmth and craft. The brick surfaces remain visible inside and out, giving the cottage a strong tactile presence and a timeless quality that blends easily with its surroundings.
The layout of the cottage is guided by wind direction and views. Each room has been placed strategically to receive natural ventilation and to frame specific glimpses of the surrounding landscape. Openings are designed to capture cross breezes, keeping the interiors comfortable without the need for mechanical cooling. The orientation also ensures that morning light fills the spaces gently while the harsher afternoon sun is kept away.
Every element of the design serves a clear purpose. The exposed brick walls moderate temperature, the shaded verandahs create comfortable transitions between indoors and outdoors, and the overall scale of the cottage keeps it intimate and quiet. The architecture depends on proportion, material, and light rather than ornament or surface finish.
The Cottage Design reflects RM+H Architects’ continuing interest in building with sensitivity to place. By using local materials and passive strategies, the project creates a small, efficient, and enduring space that feels rooted in its setting and deeply connected to the rhythm of its climate.
